Most auto chemical wholesale importers combine brake fluid and coolant orders into one full container to cut ocean freight costs. However, improper mixed loading without strict packaging separation triggers costly risks: cross-liquid contamination, brake fluid performance degradation, cargo loss and customs inspection delays. This blog shares international standard mixed loading rules to protect your bulk shipment quality.
shipping guide
Chemical incompatibility risk: Why brake fluid and coolant cannot contact each other
DOT brake fluid is glycol ether-based hygroscopic liquid, while engine coolant uses ethylene glycol or propylene glycol with special anti-corrosion additives. If packaging leaks and the two liquids mix inside the container:
  1. Brake fluid boiling point drops sharply, losing SANS / DOT safety certification standards; contaminated fluid becomes unsellable for auto braking systems.
  2. Coolant anti-rust additives react with brake fluid components, generating sediment that blocks vehicle cooling pipelines.
Even minor seepage from cracked bottles will ruin entire pallet batches during long high-temperature sea voyages.
Mandatory packaging separation requirements for mixed container loading
Global freight forwarders and marine carriers enforce clear separation rules for brake fluid and coolant in shared containers:
  1. Independent pallet zoning: Brake fluid pallets and coolant pallets must be placed on separate container sides, with at least one full pallet gap between the two product types. Never stack brake fluid cartons directly above coolant boxes or vice versa.
  2. Complete sealed packaging only: All bottles must carry intact aluminum foil induction seals. Loose, damaged or opened caps are prohibited from mixed loading, as small leaks trigger cross-contamination.
  3. Waterproof dividing carton layers: Place waterproof plastic sheets between adjacent product pallets to block accidental liquid spread in case of bottle breakage.
Stacking & pallet loading standards to eliminate sea transit leakage hazards
Ocean shipping involves heavy container vibration, high temperature and humidity, so stacking rules cannot be skipped:
  1. Max 2-layer stacking for 1L / 4L plastic bottle cartons; avoid over-compression which cracks HDPE bottles.
  2. 20L metal barrels must be fixed with pallet wrapping straps to prevent tipping during rough sea transport.
  3. Store all auto chemical goods away from container door areas, where collision risks are highest during loading/unloading.
Poor stacking leads to broken bottles, liquid cross-contamination and total product waste upon arrival at destination ports.
GAFLE export-grade packaging design for safe mixed fluid container shipment
We optimize all brake fluid and coolant packaging for mixed container sea transport:
  • Thickened virgin HDPE bottles with anti-crack structure, plus full aluminum foil anti-leak sealing
  • Reinforced corrugated export cartons with waterproof coating to resist humidity and minor liquid spills
  • Distinct product label color coding for easy pallet separation during warehouse loading
All our packaging passes international ocean freight vibration testing, lowering mixed shipment contamination risks for global wholesale clients.
If you regularly combine brake fluid and coolant in one container, our team provides professional mixed loading guidance to secure your bulk cargo safety.
