Many repair shops and auto distributors hold the wrong idea that regular antifreeze works for all electric vehicles. EV battery cooling systems run under hundreds of volts of high voltage. If standard coolant flows into the battery thermal loop, high conductivity will create electric leakage, component damage and serious safety hazards. EV low-conductivity coolant is a specialized product category with completely different design targets. GAFLE factory is a professional coolant manufacturer developing and producing dedicated EV thermal coolant for new energy vehicle aftermarket buyers.
New energy electric vehicles have two independent cooling loops, and the high-voltage battery thermal loop requires special low-conductivity coolant instead of regular antifreeze. Most EVs adopt two separate cooling circuits. One loop cools the motor, inverter and power electronics, which may tolerate some conventional coolant. The second loop circulates fluid directly inside the battery pack, where low conductivity is non-negotiable. This battery loop fluid can never be replaced with ordinary antifreeze.
Electrical conductivity describes how easily electric current flows through liquid, and it is the core safety index for EV battery thermal coolant. Pure water has very low conductivity. When dissolved ions exist in the fluid, conductivity rises. In high-voltage battery systems, any conductive path between positive and negative circuits is dangerous. Low-conductivity coolant limits stray leakage current and protects the battery management system from electrical interference.
Regular automotive antifreeze contains dissolved ions that raise conductivity, creating leakage current and short-circuit risks in high-voltage battery packs. Conventional coolant uses inhibitor salts and may bring extra ions from raw water. These dissolved ions are acceptable for low-voltage gasoline engines, but they become dangerous in high-voltage battery packs. Even if the freeze point meets the requirement, standard antifreeze fails the safety standard for EV battery thermal loops.
EV coolant is produced with ultra-pure deionized water and low-ion inhibitor packages to keep conductivity within controlled limits. Our EV coolant production uses ultra-pure water and carefully selected non-ionogenic inhibitors. The whole production process is controlled strictly to avoid ion contamination. Finished products go through conductivity testing before batch release. Different OEMs set different conductivity thresholds, and our factory can adjust formulas to match target specifications.
EV coolant must maintain excellent compatibility with special plastics, elastomers and thin aluminum heat exchangers inside battery packs. Battery packs use many composite materials, nylon seals, special gaskets and thin aluminum cooling plates. The EV coolant formula must not cause swelling, cracking or chemical degradation of these delicate components. Material compatibility testing is a mandatory step in our EV coolant development.
EV coolant maintenance rules differ from gasoline car antifreeze; conductivity testing is the most important inspection item. For gasoline vehicles, technicians mainly check freeze point and pH value. For EV coolant, conductivity is the top priority test item. If conductivity rises beyond the OEM limit, the fluid must be replaced immediately, even if the freeze point is still normal.
Our factory develops and produces customized low-conductivity EV thermal coolant and serves new energy aftermarket distributors as your reliable supplier. We provide customized EV coolant with target conductivity, freeze point and private label packaging. We supply full technical documents including SDS, TDS and batch COA. As your supplier, we also prepare technical guidance for your repair shop customers to avoid mixing EV coolant with traditional antifreeze.
FAQ
Q1: Can I use regular antifreeze for EV battery cooling loops?
A1: No. Regular antifreeze has high conductivity and brings leakage and short-circuit risks to high-voltage battery packs.
Q2: What is the most important test index for EV coolant?
A2: Electrical conductivity, together with freeze point, pH and material compatibility.
Q3: Can EV coolant be used in gasoline vehicle engines?
A3: It works technically but is uneconomical. EV coolant costs more and is designed for high-voltage systems rather than gasoline engine corrosion protection.
Q4: What causes EV coolant conductivity to increase?
A4: Contamination, ion leaching from sealing materials and long-term thermal aging will push conductivity higher.
Q5: Do all electric vehicles require low-conductivity coolant?
A5: Only the high-voltage battery thermal loop requires low-conductivity fluid. Motor cooling loops follow different OEM requirements.
Q6: Can this factory customize EV coolant conductivity for OEM specs?
A6: Yes. Our manufacturer team adjusts the formula and controls conductivity within your target range for bulk and private label orders.
